Debate on 7 September 2010 in Strasbourg on “Discrimination of same-sex married or in civil-partnership couples (debate)”
Please see for yourself how much pressure the homosexual lobby is putting into this debate (for easiness we have provided a number of direct links):
Cornelis de Jong (NL)
Marije Conrelissen (NL, Greens)
Michael Cashman (UK, Socialist Group)
If you are surprised, why Michael Cashman praises Viviane Reading, then watch http://www.vimeo.com/11617640.
Sophia in t’Veld (NL, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe)
Ulrike Lunacek (A, Greens) promotes that the peoples in the countries have less problems than their governments.
Konrad Szymanski (PL, European Conservatives and Reformists)
Crescenzio Rivellini (IT, Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats))
Anna Zaborska (SK, Group of the European People’s party (Christian Democrats))
Viviane Reading: There was a question: when is this going to happen? Now! Not in five or 10 years. I do not know about a change of mentality in the different Member States. I can just tell you about the experience which I have as a politician over so many decades. Sometimes governments are more cautious than their populations, and this has been said from personal experience in this Chamber. Sometimes the population react in a very natural, relaxed way, and the government thinks that there is a very big problem.
Viviane Reading: What I try to do is to bring the governments to understand this. If there is no understanding, then more harsh measures have to be applied.
Interestingly Viviane Reding would seem to be stopped by a disruption of peace to go ahead with her agenda. She asks the LGBT community to be patient, but will try to make their agenda progress.
